An Activity for all the family!
Arnos Vale is pleased to host a dino discovery event for the whole family in conjunction with Bristol University’s Bristol Dinosaur Project. Spend an hour being a palaeontologist. Excavate dinosaur bones, build a skeleton, handle real fossils that are millions of years old. Learn about some great Victorian scientist who helped discover dinosaurs, deadly diseases and drugs.
Who was Theco? Thecodontosaurus Antiquus was discovered in Bristol in 1834 by ~Dr Henry Riley and Samuel Stutchbury who now rests in Arnos Vale. Nicknamed the "Bristol Dinosaur” it is one of the oldest plant-eating dinosaurs and its name means ancient socket toothed dinosaur. Tickets are £7 per family group with a maximum of three children per group.
There are three sessions throughout the day to choose from:Sessions: 10:00-11:00, 11:30 – 12:30, 1:00 – 2:00

Professor of Earth Sciences at University of Bristol, Prof Mike Benton returns to the Victorian roots of his profession, to trace the fascinating story of Samuel Stutchbury; scientist, explorer, museum curator and co-discoverer of Bristol’s very own dinosaur: Thecodontosaurus.
Working in collaboration with the Bristol Dinosaur Project, this is a talk not to be missed and follows the family activities and dino workshops with our Learning coordinator Janine Marriott in the Spielman Centre on Tuesday 22nd February.

Join us at dusk on Friday the 13th for an atmospheric torchlight tour of Arnos Vale Cemetery. Taking a route past grand monuments and down dark paths, we’ll explore the folk customs and funeral traditions o Victorian society, and the life stories of some of those remembered in Arnos Vale, Bristol’s Necropolis.

Arnos Vale marks Doors Open Day this year by celebrating the 200th birthday of Dr William Budd, a medical professional whose work transformed the city’s sanitisation and saved many lives from cholera.
Entry to Arnos Vale is free of charge and there will be many events happening throughout the day.
There will be guided tours starting from 10:00am up until 3:00pm starting from the East Lodge. Last year our guided tours were extremely popular and advance booking is advised to avoid disappointment.
